Creative practices have already shown transformational potential in the area of social cohesion and environmental citizenship, but they are often fragmented, poorly resourced and badly understood (Light, Wolstenholme and Twist, 2019). The CreaTures project (Creative Practices for Transformational Futures) demonstrates the power of existing – yet often hidden – creative practices to move the world towards socio-ecological sustainability.
Through direct engagement and co-creation, our observatory, laboratory and evaluation bring together diverse creative practices that share the intention to support sustainable social transformation. We examine common processes towards sustainability (e.g., arts, design, culture, citizen-led activism) to create insights that allow artistic and other creative projects to focus their efforts more effectively and policy-makers to see the merit of employing these techniques. By understanding the impact that such processes can have upon publics, we can engage more effectively in transformational and sustainability-generating actions.
